Contra Costa County, the ninth most populated county in the state of California, has chosen MobileFrame’s Configurable Mobile ApplicationTM Platform to automate California’s Paternity Declaration [...]

Contra Costa County, the ninth most populated county in the state of California, has chosen MobileFrame’s Configurable Mobile ApplicationTM Platform to automate California’s Paternity Declaration Application which collects the signatures of unwed parents at the time of a new born child’s birth. Prior to implementing MobileFrame, when a baby was born to an unwed mother, Contra Costa County had to have a form completed that listed both parents. The data on that form is completed by an estimated 2500 birthing clerks in over 700 birthing centers around California. Contra Costa County found this manual entry process to be timely and inefficient. In many cases, it would take the County months to get these completed forms back. MobileFrame’s 100% Code-Free Platform will implement these records into the County’s Vital Records (SQL) database.

Although application development tools are commonplace, those tools require costly, time-consuming development to create business applications. Moreover, such business solutions tend to be inflexible, requiring expensive custom programming whenever business processes change. As business processes evolve, MobileFrame’s software provides users with unparalleled flexibility to create new mobile applications of any degree of complexity, incorporating any mix of business processes, and to make changes to those applications on-the-fly. With its flexibility and ease of use, MobileFrame’s enterprise mobility software will allow Contra Costa County to quickly deploy their paternity declaration applications and make changes as needed, without time-consuming and expensive development efforts.

“Contra Costa County is using MobileFrame at its best; extending an application across a large network of diverse users with different devices from different manufacturers. Our ‘Build It Once, Deploy It Anywhere’ value proposition is perfect for this deployment, which will ultimately extend to thousands of users across California”, said Lonny Oswalt, MobileFrame’s CEO. “California being a leader in deploying state-of-the-art technology is being followed closely by many other states that have the same paternity declaration needs—we expect this solution will quickly expand across the United States given the huge payback to cash strapped counties.”

About Contra Costa County

The County of Contra Costa, California (the “County”) was incorporated in 1850 as one of the original 27 counties of the State of California (the “State”), with the City of Martinez as the County Seat. It is one of the nine counties in the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Area. The County is the ninth most populous county in California, with its population reaching approximately 1,051,677 as of January 1, 2008. For more information visit: http://www.co.contra-costa.ca.us/

EuroExpress has selected a version of MobileFrame’s proof of delivery application. EuroExpress, a Europian based organization of haulers and couriers, will be using MobileFrame’s home delivery application for truck pickup inventory from a warehouse, then delivery and assembly of the furniture at the customer’s location. Prior to adopting MobileFrame’s platform, EuroExpress’ system for collecting such data was proven costly and ineffective. This is expected to be the first phase of a large deployment that will be rolled out as new warehouse distribution centers are loaded. With MobileFrame, EuroExpress will be able to utilize the latest mobility technologies to implement full-featured mobile proof of delivery applications that closely integrates with their existing Knighted Home Delivery backend system, guaranteeing them a huge ROI.

Although application development tools are commonplace, those tools require costly, time-consuming development to create business applications. Moreover, such business solutions tend to be inflexible, requiring expensive custom programming whenever business processes change. With its flexibility and ease of use, MobileFrame’s enterprise mobility software will allow EuroExpress to quickly deploy their proof of delivery applications and make changes as needed, without time-consuming and expensive development efforts.

“Many wireless proof of delivery application systems fail because they are not able to accommodate the diverse needs of different vertical marketplaces. MobileFrame’s dominance in the proof of delivery vertical demonstrates the affordability and flexibility of our mobile technology to a large variety of businesses such as EuroExpress.”

— Lonny Oswalt, MobileFrame CEO

After seeing MobileFrame’s full-featured platform in action, Navajo Tribal Utility Authority was confident that it would meet their needs. With MobileFrame, Navajo Tribal Utility will be able to utilize the latest mobility technologies to implement full-featured mobile meter reading applications using bar code and in the future plan to implement RFID tags, which easily integrates with their Access backend system.

Here at MobileFrame we are pretty good at solving the problem of paper in the field. In this case we had a customer come to us with a very simple yet, annoying problem.

Here’s the current process:

Write the Barcode from the asset on a sheet of paper

Indicate if it passed or failed inspection

If the asset failed, indicate why

They were having problems with

The wrong asset tag information being captured (Transcription Error)

Forgetting to indicate why the inspection failed

Not turning in required paperwork in a timely fashion

Duplication of data back at the office.

Here is the application that I developed in under 1 hour that was able to address these problems with 100% data accuracy, and real time information sharing. If you would like to learn more about MobileFrame please contact us today.

1. Test on your selected devices – I’ve seen a number of mobile developers forget this important step. Remember, mobile computers don’t have the same computing power and memory that a normal computer does.

2. Ask for feedback from the experts….your END USERS – Don’t forget to ask for feedback from the field workers that will actually be using the mobile application. It doesn’t matter what the application does if the mobile worker isn’t able to use it successfully. Simple is better, so plan ahead.

3. Take the time to train your team – Not everyone is as familiar with technology as we’d like. Someone needs to help others understand how to operate their new device (even how to turn it on). Going from a paper work order with a 2 way radio to a mobile computer with a wireless work order system is a paradigm shift so plan ahead. Even better, create a user guide for them.

Rapid Application Development Environments

This topic always generates a lot of discussion, so I’m sure this time will be no different. First let’s start with the definition.

Rapid Application Development – refers to a type of software development methodology that involves techniques like iterative development and software prototyping. Essentially it is a development style that favors incremental development with constant feedback from the end user. This development process is repeated until the application has been perfected and meets the needs of the user. Many organizations have found that Rapid Application Development or RAD is a fantastic idea, but is requires advanced tools to make this approach a reality. This is where companies like MobileFrame come into the picture.

In order to “Rapidly Develop Applications” it becomes necessary to provide functionality out of the box, to make the development effort easier.

Some of the things MobileFrame does to make it easier to go mobile include:

Drag and Drop Screen Design – Design your mobile application logic once, and deploy to multiple different Operating Systems

Drag and Drop Print Designer – Create Print layouts in Minutes, and not weeks.

Printer Driver Bundling – Printer Drivers are bundled in, no need to pick a specific printer

Device Driver Auto Recognition – We are plug and play across a wide variety of different devices, and can support mixed device deployments, with no extra effort

User Administration – Users can authenticate against their current usernames / passwords, and IT can lock down the device to keep the network safe

Peripheral Integration – We Support RFID, GPS, Barcode (1d, 2d), Magnetic Stripe Scanning, Photo Capture, Photo Annotation, Drawing, Speech to Text, Digital Signature Capture, Printing, Barcode Printing, plus much more

Backend System Integration – Out of the box hooks into any ODBC or OLEDB compliant data source including (SQL, Oracle, DB2, SAP, Sybase, etc.)

Synchronization Management – Fail proof sync engine, with the ability to prioritize which networks you would like to sync over first

Mobile Device Management – Remote Device Management out in the field, with the ability to take administrative control

Enterprise Application Management – Update Applications, Client Software, and third party applications over the air, no need to collect the device from the field

Multiple Language Support – Create business logic once, deploy to any number of languages. No need to write and support a 2nd code base

Plus many more.

The Mobile Software Development Market is full of companies that claim to have Rapid Application Development Environments, with easy to use development tools, which can be used to assist organizations to design, develop, and deploy mobile applications. And while I can’t speak for other companies that claim to have easy to use tool sets, I can tell you that at MobileFrame the average project from Design / Scope to Deployment is usually 3-4 weeks, and includes integrations with multiple different back-end systems. With this kind of turnaround many of our customers call our environment a Rapid Deployment toolset, instead of a Rapid Application Development Environment.

In fact, the system is so easy to use that all of our sales reps can show how to build custom mobile applications from scratch, make changes to the application on the fly per the user’s request, deploy them out to the device wirelessly and perform a live integration… all on the very first phone call with a prospect.

So the next time that you are investigating different tools to help you go mobile, don’t just think about Rapid Application Development, think about Rapid Deployment.

If you are interested in seeing how MobileFrame is able to create custom mobile applications with no custom programming required, contact us today.
