Corpac Steel Tracks their Inventory with MobileFrame

Los Gatos, CA (September 25, 2012) – MobileFrame LLC, provider of the only cross-device mobile application development platform that requires no custom coding to develop custom enterprise mobile apps, announces that Corpac Steel has selected their Inventory Tracking Application.

Corpac is a global supplier and trader of pipe and steel products and services, specializing in line pipe, standard pipe, OCTG, Conduit and structural products. They receive pipe from their fabricators and need to know what pipe was received and the associated information about that pipe. Prior to implementing MobileFrame, Corpac was collecting this inventory data with pen and paper. Corpac Steel knew that keeping track of assets and inventory is necessary to ensure timely maintenance and proper supply, but tracking so many varied assets and items on paper presented a lot of challenges. With a paper-based system, the data error rate is high due to the amount of data collected on a variety of paper forms. They found this process to be time consuming and inefficient, and knew it was time for a change. Continue reading

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Selects MobileFrame for Their POD Requirements

Los Gatos, CA (August 16, 2012) – MobileFrame LLC, provider of the only cross-device mobile application development platform that requires no custom coding to develop custom enterprise mobile apps, announces that Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has chosen MobileFrame’s Configurable Mobile Application TM  for their Mailroom Proof of Delivery requirements.

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute provides expert, compassionate care to children and adults with cancer while advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of cancer and related diseases.   Dana-Farber receives several packages each day by FedEx and UPS into their mail room, which their employees must then deliver to the right person and track that the delivery was completed successfully. Prior to implementing MobileFrame’s Mailroom POD Application, this was being done on clipboard and paper. MobileFrame’s software will be used for many apps, but the next one on the list is to deploy a physical inventory count application. As with most companies, Dana-Farber has many supply cabinets across their buildings where employees can take what they need to do their jobs. Of course that means that over time the supplies need to be replenished, so the app will provide summary reports to the right people. Continue reading

Mobile Apps for NERC, FERC Compliance

Regulatory Compliance…..it’s a big issue that can’t be ignored. No matter what kind of utility company you are, from nuclear power to gas distribution, electric or water you all share some common challenges. The nature of the business calls for large teams of mobile employees who conduct inspections, maintenance and repairs in the field.  Most companies are still collecting that data on clipboards and paper, which means the office staff has to manually enter the data into your business systems. This manual process is error prone, requires excessive labor costs and even worse, it causes delays in getting access to the data needed to stay in compliance.

The key to solving this problem is to go paperless with a mobile app solution. When evaluating solutions, look for a platform approach that can be used for all apps across all departments instead of trying to manage a variety of different vendors.  Another high priority should be to select a vendor that offers apps that are integrated tightly together. For example, consider this:

  • An issue is found during a routine inspection. From the inspection app, a repair order is automatically opened
  • Repair Order is then dispatched to a tech in real-time
  • From a web portal, the status of the repair can be tracked and updated daily

Indianapolis Power and Light Puts a Lid on their Manhole Inspections Issues with MobileFrame

Los Gatos, CA (June, 14, 2012) – MobileFrame LLC, provider of the only cross-device mobile application development platform that requires no custom coding to develop custom enterprise mobile apps, announces that Indianapolis Power and Light has chosen MobileFrame’s application to eliminate the paper forms used for manhole inspections.

IPL is a leading provider of electric services to more than 470,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Indianapolis and other central Indiana communities.  IPL needed to eliminate the paper forms used for manhole inspections, increase efficiencies and to make their data easily accessible to regulatory agencies. Because the software is specifically designed for mobility and fully customizable, IPL knew that MobileFrame would be a perfect fit.

Since manholes are considered the windows to the condition of America’s pipelines as well as a critical access point for storm water runoff and pollutants, it is very important to maintain their structural integrity. Proactive manhole assessment is a key component of any collection system asset management program. IPL found out that using a clipboard and paper to collect data, then having to aggregate hundreds of paper forms to prioritize rehabilitation was very inefficient. This is when MobileFrame stepped in. Continue reading

Ramp up your DSD Apps with Real Time Alerts

Increasing fuel costs, increased competitive pressure and smaller profit margins are forcing companies that deliver goods directly to customers to find innovative ways to gain efficiencies and accuracy.  Direct Store Delivery systems have increased efficiencies for direct delivery models everywhere by enabling a paperless system to assist with load processing and inventory tracking.  From retail sales reps, warehouse and management to pack-and-peddle operations, DSD applications have helped to reduce errors, decrease days’ sales outstanding and increase customer satisfaction.

Most companies in the industry have deployed a standalone DSD solution that has no way to talk to any other apps in the field, so companies today are looking for more.  A complete DSD Solution Suite allows for more than simply tracking your deliveries; it combines the power of various apps to manage the complexities of various and sometimes unexpected processes.   MobileFrame’s DSD Solution includes apps for Merchandising, Pre-Sales, Asset Tracking, Accident Reports and Field Service. The best news is that they are all tightly integrated together. Combining these processes into one suite of applications gives you the power to automate workflow from one app to another through the use of action based, real-time alerts.

Assets vs. Inventory – What is the difference?

Inventory and asset tracking are both important, but what separates them?  Why are there different applications for these seemingly similar processes?  The answer lies in the purpose for each but first let’s examine the difference between inventory and assets.

Assets are defined as an economic resource that represents an ownership of value.  This could be a truck, a piece of software or, yes, even an inventory of widgets.  Inventory is a list of compiled assets for sale or use in another process.  When it comes to the differences in tracking we need to look at assets as being here for long term use and inventory being here for consumption of some sorts.  Think of it as the difference between a library and a book store.
